Details for messenger / hormone: estradiol

EndoNet ID: ENH00023

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

Synonyms

  • estradiol
  • E2
  • 17beta-estradiol
  • 17beta-oestradiol
  • 1,3,5(10)-estratriene-3,17beta-diol

General information

  • Estradiol attenuates acinar cell apoptosis and development of chronic pancreatitis. [1]
  • E2 has positive effect on cholinergic neurons that project from the basal nucleus to the forebrain cortex. [2]
  • E2 acts on the (Na+ + K+)-ATPase not directly, but by means of a mediator released within the myocyte. [3]
  • E2 treatment decreases airway responsiveness to acetylcholine in ovariectomized rats. [4]
  • The estrogenized osteoporotic skeleton is less sensitive to the acute bone resorbing effects of PTH. [5]
  • E2 reduces adrenal angiotensin receptor expression in both the presence and absence of dexamethasone in NaCl-deprived rats. [6]
  • Estrogen is known to increase insulin-like growth factor-1 production from some osteoblastic cells in-vitro. [5]
  • Estradiol increases long-term potentiation magnitude in apoE4-TR. [7]

      • Anatomical structure: granulosa_cell

        • Aromatase converts androstenidione from the theca cells of the ovary to estradiol. [8]
        • In response to the P450arom induced in the granulosa cells by FSH stimulation, the androstenedione is aromatized to estrone, which then is converted to estradiol by the 17beta-HSD. [9]

        Influenced by:

        • follitropin receptor
          in granulosa_cell
        • BMP receptor type IB
          in granulosa_cell
          • BMP-4 and BMP-7 enhance FSH-dependent estradiol production, suggesting that BMP factors regulate granulosa cell differentiation, particularty in delaying the luteinization process. [10]
