Details for messenger / hormone: CYR61

EndoNet ID: ENH00582

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • Two immediate early gene-encoded members of the family of the Cyr61/CTGF/Nov proteins referred to as cysteine-rich protein 61 (Cyr61/CCN1) and connective tissue growth factor (CTGF/CCN2), are highly expressed in several mechanical stress-related pathologies, which result from either increased externally applied or internally generated forces by the actin cytoskeleton. [1]
  • CYR61, a product of a growth factor-inducible immediate early gene, promotes angiogenesis and tumor growth. [2]
  • Factor VIIa and thrombin induce the expression of Cyr61 and connective tissue growth factor, extracellular matrix signaling proteins that could act as possible downstream mediators in factor VIIa x tissue factor-induced signal transduction. [3]
  • The human Cyr61 gene is a transcriptional target of transforming growth factor beta in cancer cells. [4]
  • CCN1/Cyr61 is regulated by the canonical Wnt signal and plays an important role in Wnt3A-induced osteoblast differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells. [5]
  • CCN1 induces fibroblast apoptosis through its adhesion receptors, integrin alpha6beta1 and the heparan sulfate proteoglycan (HSPG) syndecan-4, triggering the transcription-independent p53 activation of Bax to render cytochrome c release and activation of caspase-9 and -3. [6]
  • CYR61 is a member of an emerging family of growth regulators that includes the human connective tissue growth factor and the chicken protooncoprotein Nov. [7]
  • Cyr61 is overexpressed in gliomas and involved in integrin-linked kinase-mediated Akt and beta-catenin-TCF/Lef signaling pathways. [8]
  • The adhesion of human skin fibroblasts to Cyr61 is mediated through integrin alpha 6beta 1 and cell surface heparan sulfate proteoglycans. [9]
  • Muscarinic acetylcholine receptors induce the expression of the immediate early growth regulatory gene CYR61. [10]
  • Cyr61 suppresses the growth of non-small-cell lung cancer cells via the beta-catenin-c-myc-p53 pathway. [11]
  • Cyr61 is a member of the CCN family of growth factors; these proteins are secreted and can act as ligands of distinct integrins. [8]
  • CYR61 is a secreted, cysteine-rich heparin-binding protein that associates with the extracellular matrix and cell surface. [7]
  • Cyr61 plays a functional role in breast cancer progression, possibly through its interactions with the alpha(v)beta3 receptor. [12]
