Details for messenger / hormone: galectin-3-binding protein

EndoNet ID: ENH00742

To link to the content of EndoNet use the EndoNet ID that is given on the detail pages in the format ENX0000, where X is a place holder for the type of the component (e. g. R for receptor or C for anatomical structure).
As URL for the linking append this ID to the detail page for this type of component.
For an hormone that would be:

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/hormone/ENH00000

It is also possible to use the search of EndoNet to link to the right detail page. The URL should look like

http://endonet.bioinf.med.uni-goettingen.de/search/ENC00000
If the search pattern is unambigious the user is directed to the corresponding detail page.

General information

  • The serum protein designated 90K/Mac-2BP has been found at elevated concentrations in the sera of patients with various types of cancer and viral infections. [1]
  • Promotes integrin-mediated cell adhesion. May stimulate host defense against viruses and tumor cells. [2]
  • M2BP forms linear and ring-shaped oligomers, with each ring segment being composed of two monomers. [3]
  • Glycoprotein 90K/MAC-2BP interacts with galectin-1 and mediates galectin-1-induced cell aggregation. [4]
  • 90-kD glycoprotein (gp90/Mac-2BP) belongs to the scavenger receptor family, present in normal serum and at increased levels in inflammatory disease and cancer patients, on some T cell function parameters. [5]
  • Mac-2 binding protein is upregulated by hTERT in gastric cancer. [6]
  • Implicated in tumor metastasis.
  • Mac-2 binding protein is a cell-adhesive protein of the extracellular matrix which self-assembles into ring-like structures and binds beta1 integrins, collagens and fibronectin. [7]
