General information

  • MMP3, MMP13, MMP14 and MMP20 can process the gamma-2-chain and induce epithelial cell migration, similarly with MMP2 or MT1-MMP. [1]
  • Laminin is essential for basement membrane assembly, promotes cell attachment and angiogenesis, induces neurite outgrowth, affects gene expression and is involved in cell proliferation, migration and differentiation. [2]
  • EGF-like domain of gamma-2 chain activates downstream signaling including EGF receptor and ERK1/2 phosphorylation, leading to enhanced cell motility. [1]
  • Genomic defects in any of the three subunits causes lethal skin disease known as Herlitz's junctional epidermolysis bullosa. [3]
  • BMP-1 is implicated in proteolytic processing of LN-5 in keratinocyte remodelling; it induces both laminin alpha-3 and gamma-2 processing. [1]
  • Laminin-5 stimulates human tumor cells to form lamellipodia, leading to enhanced cell migration and invasion. [3]
