General information

  • Major laminin expressed during early embryogenesis. [1]
  • Laminin-1 induces transient mRNA expression of c-fos and c-Jun, and stimulates the DNA binding activity of the complex of these protein to the AP-1 site. [2]
  • Laminin-1 interacts with the glycoprotein nidogen-1, also called entactin-1. [1]
  • Laminin-1 binds to many cell surface receptors, like integrins alpha1-beta1, alpha2-beta1, alpha7-beta1. [1]
  • Laminin-1-adherent cells shows increased proliferative activity and reduced apoptosis in comparison with the laminin-1-non-adherent cells. [2]
  • Chemotactic and haptotactic for tumor cells. [2]
  • MAPK are involved in laminin signaling. [2]
  • Effector molecules can modulate laminin polymerization. It is either enhanced or inhibited depending on the presence and concentration of heparin. [1]
  • In tumor cells, laminin-1 results in a time- and dose-dependent activation of phospholipase D followed by generation of phosphatidic acid that is involved in signal transduction events leading to the induction of MMP-2 and enhanced invasiveness. [2]
  • Laminin induces an increase in matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity, which has key role in invasion and metastasis. [2]
  • Laminin-1 is required for development of the lung, kidney and gut as well as in neural crest migration and ganglion cell maturation. [1]
  • Laminin cleavage products may be involved in signal transduction pathways different than intact laminin. [2]
  • Laminin is essential for basement membrane assembly, promotes cell attachment and angiogenesis, induces neurite outgrowth, affects gene expression and is involved in cell proliferation, migration and differentiation. [2]
