Follicle-stimuating hormone has a central role in ovarian folliculogenesis, particularly in regulating granulosa cell differentiation, it enhances expression of steroidogenic enzymes such as cytochrome P450 side-chain cleavage and P450 aromatase (these actions are importantly modulated by various growth factors, acting in paracrine or autocrine way).
