An intriguing link may exist between LPA signaling and neurological diseases such as schizophrenia, on the basis of phenotypic and molecular similarities. Craniofacial dysmorphism, defects in prepulse inhibition, and widespread brain alterations in serotonin neurotransmitter levels are present in both Lpar1-deficient mice and patients suffering from schizophrenia.
